MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK
Get set, jet set! Hawaii called.
She wants you back.
A hot pink, kick-flared linen pantsuit. Nothing underneath. Or maybe a bikini. That spaghetti-strapped sundress in a hand-drawn paisley print. The one with triangular cut-outs along the neckline. Intriguing details. Sustainable fabrications. Crisp white tiered broderie anglaise. A hip-hugging halter dress with a retro floral print. Striped hand-loom cotton beach pants with embroidered hems. Pattern clash polka dots and leopard print.
Pack the lot, there are no rules. These are clothes to make memories in. Clothes to go on adventures with, to dance and swim and discover in. Clothes to make you smile, clothes to feel bright in. No more wish-you-were-here. Be here.
Those in the know seek out Tigerlily as their go-to brand for the complete holiday wardrobe. It’s famous across the globe for its peerless swimwear, as perfect poolside as it is for the beach, and for its easy breezy vacation dresses and statement fashion pieces.
To celebrate Resort 2020, Tigerlily returns to the runway for the first time in 17 years with a collection inspired by the holiday buzz of 1960s Hawaii. Rewind, unwind. Feel the pull of the sheltered bay, where the tiki bar is always open and it’s never too cold to swim. You might even see Elvis. You’ll certainly fall in love (several times a day).
The mood is playful and fresh, building on ice-cream pastels, aqua, sunset pinks and oranges. There are high voltage moments, but there’s also a hand-crafted honesty to these pieces, from the beautiful cotton hand-loom weaves produced the traditional way in India to the bespoke trims.
Coconut buttons, raffia accessories and retro shirring add a nostalgic touch, played back with ginghams and crochet. A tassel here, a ruffle there, but the look’s not toosweet. There’s a sexiness to these silhouettes, a strength, and above all a sense of optimistic possibility. The holidays aren’t over; they’ve only just begun.
Jewellery is now designed in-house, while this season also marks the debut of Anna Maria Escobar’s new bag collection for Tigerlily. Her pieces effortlessly meld retro quirk - case in point: those charismatic raffia clutches and bamboo basket bags - with the go-anywhere sophistication of timeless squashy leather totes and logoed purses. In summary, the mood is way too exciting to check in. See you when we land.
